Batik
Collaboration Project
For this unit all students were give given a small canvas. Student then discuss how they could combine all their canvases to create a group project. This project required teem work, and much consideration of peoples strengths and weaknesses in order for the project to be successful.
Weaving
For this project students learned about basic weaving, tapestry, and crochet techniques. Student then created their own fiber work of art.
Think Outside the Box
For this unit students learned about the elements and principles of design and how they can work together to create a cohesive work of art.
The project students were assigned was to take a 2"x 2" magazine square and incorporate it into their work of art making sure to use the elements within that square, combined with the principles to make the magazine piece appear to belong. Students were also given one limitation, that they could not simply finish the image as expected they had to "think outside the box" and develop more creative ways of incorporate their magazine piece. |
Self Portraits
For this unit students learned about Frida Kalho and how she painted self portraits that revealed things about who she was through images and symbolism. Student then participated in a facial proportions activity where they learned how to accurately draw a face. For the project students were then instructed to create a self portrait, using symbols that describes elements about themselves, in a similar way to Frida Kalho.
Op Art (Optical Illusion Art)
Op art works are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black and white. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or of swelling or warping.
Alebrijes

For this project students were creating a type of Mexican Folk Art called Alebrijes. These are fictional creatures created by the artist Pedro Linare. Padro first developed the idea for these creatures after having a feverish dream one night, where he saw crazy creatures made up of many different animals. Fitting with the traditional Mexican Folk art elements these crazy creatures are painted with bright colors and many patterns. For this project students will be learning how to work with clay, using pinch, coil, and slab techniques.

Pastel AbstractsFor this project students will be learning about abstract art. Students start the project by following a list of elements to draw. After they have created the various elements they then have to figure out how they can manipulate what they have to turn it into a successful composition especially considering the element value. Students will need to use problem solving skills as they develop their project.
